Latest Stunts: Emotional Support Chicken, Emergency Times Square Cheese Sandwich Deliveries

The holiday brand hits just keep on coming, with Popeyes Louisiana Chicken and Kraft Cheese out with the latest.

Popeyes’ promotion spoofs the recent controversies about airlines cracking down on travelers trying to fly with wacky “emotional support animals” like squirrels and peacocks.

The QSR’s solution: Chicken tenders boxed in a carrier labeled “Emotional Support Chicken.”

This is one companion that’s “permitted to fly without restrictions,” notes Popeyes CMO Hope Diaz, adding that the brand hopes to relieve some of the stress of holiday travel with a bit of humor.

The hitch: The boxes are available for purchase only at the Popeyes located in Terminal C of Philadelphia International Airport, while supplies last.

Created by GSD&M, the promotion includes a 45-second video (below), and shorter cuts being used on the brand’s social media.

Meanwhile, in another promotion billed as a holiday stress reducer, Kraft American Cheese Singles is using bicycle messengers (above) to deliver free “emergency” grilled cheese sandwiches in the heart of Manhattan.

On Dec. 20 only, between noon and 6 p.m. EDT, adults within the Times Square radius (42nd to 49th Streets on Broadway and 7th Avenue) can text “Chzz” to 797979 to receive Five Guys grilled cheese sandwiches made with Kraft American.

The hitches: There’s a limit of four sandwiches per person/phone number, and once 1,000 sandwiches are ordered/delivered, the party’s over.

The promotional materials position the offer as a lifesaver for parents who find themselves needing to quiet their kids’ “meltdowns” with a taste-of-home comfort food while visiting the NYC tourist hub.
