Sinclair In Deal To Push TV Broadcasting In Cars

Sinclair Broadcast Group, one of the largest groups of U.S. TV stations, has struck a deal to develop a digital broadcasting network-based automotive electronics technology.

Using ATSC 3.0, the next-gen broadcasting technology standard, the effort will allow drivers to get in-vehicle HD terrestrial TV broadcasting.

Sinclair is partnering with Harman, an electronics device design company, which specializes in automotive, and SK Telecom, the Korean mobile telecommunications company.

The announcement was made at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

It will also enable drivers to get secure firmware updates, map updates through terrestrial digital broadcasting facilities operated by Sinclair throughout the U.S.

Sinclair says the technology will also be deployed in other local broadcast facilities when it become available.

I always feel much safer when the drivers around me are watching TV rather than the road and traffic.
