AARP, Ad Council Launch Retirement Campaign

The Ad Council and the AARP are evoking nostalgia to remind Americans to be proactive about their retirement savings.

The creative, developed by OMD Create, plays off old-school educational TV shows, like "Schoolhouse Rock," "Vegetable Soup" or "Play School," by featuring two performers singing a jingle by Gary William Friedman, music director of “The Electric Company,” encouraging viewers to get on track with their retirement savings today.

“Knowing how to save for retirement is as fundamental as learning your ABCs,” said Lisa Sherman, president and CEO, the Ad Council. “By bringing creativity and humor to an issue that often seems daunting, we hope to inspire more people to take charge of their financial futures.”

The PSAs direct viewers to “Avo,” what AARP calls a first-of-its-kind digital retirement coach available at AceYourRetirement.org that offers an interactive chat experience to help people through their retirement concerns.

The media strategy, also developed by OMD Create, will appear in donated media nationwide in TV, digital, out of home, radio, print, and social media-friendly video formats.
