Movie Marketing Executive Michael Gray Dies At 87

Veteran Hollywood marketing executive Michael A. Gray has died at age 87, his daughter opera singer Madeleine Gray announced on Facebook.

“My dad passed away quietly in his sleep last night following complications to a hip fracture sustained in January," she wrote on Monday. “We are relieved he did not have to suffer in his greatly-reduced cognitive and physical condition - the things he most dreaded about aging - for too long.”

Gray created electronic press kits for such films as "Back to School" and "Moonstruck."

A former newspaperman and graduate of New York University, Gray worked as a publicity manager at Screen Gems, helping to launch the TV series "Naked City," "Route 66" and "The Flintstones," according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Later, he worked for Rogers & Cowan and as publicity director at United Artists. While serving as UA’s European production marketing division, he worked on such films as "On Her Majesty’s Secret Service" and "Fiddler On the Roof."

Gray eventually became vice president, public relations for Universal.

He is survived by his wife Adele, his daughter Madeleine and his granddaughter Aisling.
