'Artsy' Names Marina Garcia-Vasquez EIC

has named Marina Garcia-Vasquez the first to hold the newly created role of editor-in-chief at Artsy editorial.

In her new role, Garcia-Vasquez will oversee the day-to-day execution of Arty’s editorial content, guiding its vision in cooperation with the company’s art-and-culture editors and writers and its production and visuals teams.

In addition to these duties, Garcia-Vasquez will work closely with Marina Cashdan, the company’s vice president of editorial and creative, and Matt Domino, the Artsy editorial team’s director of growth and operations, to enhance audience engagement through new opportunities and diverse programming.

“Writing has always led me to art, and I have a deep veneration for artists’ practice,” Garcia-Vasquez stated.

Garcia-Vasquez brings 15+ years of experience across digital and print journalism.

Prior to her appointment at Artsy, she spent more than four years at Vice Media, where she was EIC of The Creators Project, executive managing editor at Vice.com and director of community at Vice Media. Garcia-Vasquez promoted arts and culture content for a generalist audience during her time with The Creators Project.

Before that, Garcia-Vasquez held positions at The Wall Street Journal’s The Accelerators Blog, Planet MagazineLatino.com and Business 2.0.

Cashdan stated that her digital experience and art passion and commitment to "exploring underrepresented artists and art-historical topics, which Artsy champions deeply align with the emphasis we place on the confluence of art and technology, and our broader mission to support more artists and art in the world.”

Artsy Editorial reaches 1.3 million readers each month. Its coverage includes breaking art-world news, art-market analysis, artist interview and advice for experiences and aspiring creatives.

The site operates independently from Artsy’s marketplace business.
