Gmail is suffering service outages in the United States, largely in the Northeast and Southern California. 

Downdetector has received numerous complaints, spiking at around 5:20 p.m. on Monday. The service problem is interfering with people doing their work. 

"I can't attach files,” writes Jerry Jordan. “I keep getting errors and it's causing me some serious issues on press deadlines for NASCAR coverage."

“is there an outage?” writes giaEP. "I cant seem to do anything. Keeps saying oops something went wrong. I need to do my work!!!!! Im working on safari."

One more complainant says: "Emails are no longer displaying in my Inbox."

At 6:16, Google posted: "We're investigating reports of an issue with Gmail. We will provide more information shortly. The affected users are able to access Gmail, but are seeing error messages, high latency, and/or other unexpected behavior."

At 7:30, it added: "The problem with Gmail should be resolved. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience and continued support. Please rest assured that system reliability is a top priority at Google, and we are making continuous improvements to make our systems better. If you are still experiencing an issue, please contact us via the Google Help Center.”

UPDATE: Gmail indicated Monday evening that there were no more issues, but problems apparently continued into Tuesday, peaking at about 10 a.m. ET, according to downdetector.   

“Still not working for me in Hawaii at all,” writes one use. “Annoying.”

Another complains: ”I can’t send or receive. As of now may 7 at 8am PST. Any fixes?”

The disruption, while not as serious as Monday’s, mostly hit the same parts of the U.S. — the Northeast and West Coast.
