Lorne Michaels, King Of Ad Spoofers, To Receive Cannes Lions Award

Over the decades NBC’s Saturday Night Live has skewered the ad biz with its hilarious spoofs. Who can forget Dan Aykroyd’s hilarious sendup of direct response ads, Super Bass-O-Matic? But there have been hundreds more since then.

How fitting that the Cannes Festival of Creativity is bestowing SNL creator and executive producer Lorne Michaels with the Festival’s first Entertainment Person of the Year award next month.

Michaels will be presented the award on Thursday night (June 20) during the Festival. Earlier in the day Michaels will participate in a panel session at the show titled “In a World of Disruption, Storytelling Wins.”

Philip Thomas, Chairman of Cannes Lions, called Michaels “an esteemed industry legend,” and “an individual who perfectly illustrates the impact of great storytelling and culture, which can support the marketing and communications industry to strive for creative excellence and engage and inspire audiences across the world."

Well if the Super Bass O Matic isn’t inspiring I don’t know what is.
