Delta, Ticketmaster Partner To Benefit SkyMiles Members

Delta Air Lines’ loyalty club members now have a new way to earn frequent flier miles.

Under this partnership, live event fans who are SkyMiles members can now earn one mile per dollar spent on tickets for concerts, games or theatre events in the U.S. and Canada purchased through Ticketmaster.

To kick off the partnership, SkyMiles members can earn three miles per dollar spent from June 3 through Aug. 31. Delta SkyMiles members can redeem the miles for credit toward travel, including tickets and upgrades.

The companies have aimed to make the program simple. Consumers go to delta.com/ticketmaster, enter their SkyMiles account number, which will then direct them to Ticketmaster.com. From there, they can search through the inventory of tickets as they normally would and then receive miles upon completion of their purchase.

Delta has partnered with dozens of companies to offer miles for purchase dollars, including Macy's, Kohl's, Brooks Brothers, Neiman Marcus, Patagonia and HP, on its SkyMiles Shopping website.

Why would Ticketmaster want to assume this extra expense when they have a virtual monopoly for the events they represent/market?  Do they think this will increase their business?

Why do any of the merchants who participate in SkyMall do it?  It might get someone to buy something they woudln't otherwise buy because of the incentive of loyatlty miles. The program doesn't cost Ticketmaster anything, Delta is doing all the marketing for it.

Are you serious Tanya? SkyMall is filled with brands and retailers competiting against each other. Ticketmaster has no competition for many if not most of its events. Also, the program does cost Ticketmaster as they pay for every mile they award to someone.

I disagree that there’s no competition for Ticketmaster. LiveNation and AXS are both getting more and more business and then there’s the secondary market of Stubhub, Vivid Seats, etc. I go to 3-4 live shows or sporting events every month, Ticketmaster maybe gets 1/2 my business.
