The North American division of Fiat Chrysler, FCA, and autonomous driving startup Aurora signed an agreement to develop and deploy self-driving commercial vehicles.
Aurora, founded in 2017, has developed a self-driving platform called Aurora Driver, which includes the hardware, software and data services to create what is known as Level 4 autonomy, a level at which a driver can still take over control of the vehicle.
The partnership provides that FCA and Aurora will integrate the Aurora Driver into FCA commercial vehicle lines.
"As part of FCA's autonomous vehicle strategy, we will continue to work with strategic partners to address the needs of customers in a rapidly changing industry," states Mike Manley, CEO of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles. "Aurora brings a unique skillset combined with advanced and purposeful technology that complements and enhances our approach to self-driving."
