McLaren Automotive Launches Eyewear Collection

Design is a key element in automobiles, so it’s really not a stretch for McLaren Automotive to expand its offerings to eyeglass frames.

McLaren is the creator of luxury high-performance sports cars and supercars. The frame collection will be equally high-tech: It includes what McLaren says are industry-first 3D-printed titanium frames and the option of using face-scanning technology for the perfect tailored fit.

It also includes the first use of five Leica Eyecare sun lens types, each specifically designed for driving, skiing, sailing, city life or playing golf.

The designs are lightweight yet strong and are designed to excel, according to the company.

McLaren designers worked with French optical specialist L’Amy Group to create the collection, which includes core, premium and bespoke groups.

Available as sunglasses or with prescription lenses, the different styles are characterized by innovative design and advanced materials, reflecting the technical elegance of McLaren cars, according to the automaker. The eyewear is available in a range of finishes and colors, including traditional McLaren hues, such as orange.

Each of the five Leica sun lenses can be combined with arm colors that include black with a choice of either grey, yellow, red or orange, offering McLaren owners an opportunity to subtly “color-coordinate” with their cars.

McLaren Vision Collection eyewear can be viewed at unique point-of-sale displays that include a built-in camera and screen. These will begin to appear at selected independent specialist opticians and a range of department stores and ecommerce outlets from July onward. The collection will be displayed for the first time at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in early July.

The McLaren Vision Collection of sunglasses and ophthalmic frames is available at independent eyewear specialists. Frame prices start at $323, rising to $2,008 for the bespoke range.

The collection sets new standards for elite eyewear, says Mike Flewitt, CEO, McLaren Automotive.

“The McLaren Vision Collection epitomizes the design innovation and pioneering technical excellence that is at the core of the McLaren brand’s DNA,” Flewitt states.
