iHeartMedia, Pride Media Produce LGBTQ+ Podcasts

iHeartMedia is partnering with Pride Media to produce a slate of LGBTQ+ podcasts in 2019-2020.

Pride Media publishes media brands Out, The Advocate and Pride.

The partnership kicked off with the launch of “The Outcast” last Thursday. Coproduced with Out magazine, the iHeartRadio original podcast will be hosted by Fran Tirado, deputy editor of Out.

The weekly podcast will “explore queer and queer-adjacent topics as they pertain to politics, pop culture, fashion, relationships, money, and more,” according to a statement. 

Each episode focuses on one theme or story and features a combination of interviews, reporting and roundtable discussions. The first episode, released last Thursday, discussed drag ball history and culture.



“Podcasting and audio storytelling, particularly in the LGBTQ+ space, needs more voices in it. I can’t wait to help elevate and uplift those voices,” stated Tirado.

Another show, “Food 4 Thot,” a podcast is hosted by four queer men who discuss sex, relationships, race and identity.

New podcasts from iHeartMedia and Pride Media will roll out in 2020.

”By combining our established brand with iHeart’s massive scale, we’ll be able to reach even more LGBTQ+ individuals across the country through audio," stated Orlando Reece, interim CEO at Pride Media.

iHeartMedia is one of the largest podcast publishers. Its iHeartRadio division has over 25,000 podcasts, with more than 750 iHeartRadio original shows.

The shows will be available on the iHeartRadio app and more than 250 different podcast platforms.

iHeartMedia announced last month that its Pride Radio music channel was expanding to reach 29 stations in total, with the addition of 12 HD radio stations.
