Ikea plans to invest more in smart home innovations and is creating a new business unit for it within the Swedish company.

Ikea Home Smart was started as a project in 2012 to incorporate digital elements and technologies into products.

The new business unit will be responsible for the smart home business end to end.

“We want to continue to offer products for a better life at home for the many people going forward,” states Björn Block, head of the new IKEA Home smart business unit at IKEA of Sweden. “In order to do so, we need to explore products and solutions beyond conventional home furnishings.”

IKEA created its own eco system and app for smart lighting, now called IKEA Home smart app.
