'Washington Examiner' Launches Daily Political Podcast With Cumulus Media

Washington, D.C.-based conservative publication The Washington Examinerlaunched its first daily podcast this summer with Cumulus Media, joining other news publishers moving into the podcast industry with daily shows.

Called “Examining Politics,” the podcast is hosted by Larry O’Connor, a talk-show host on the KABC-LA and WMAL-DC radio stations.

Cumulus, one of the largest radio broadcasting companies, handles the hosting of "Examining Politics" on its Omny player platform. The podcast is also promoted on KABC-LA and WMAL-DC. The show has already published over 50 episodes.

“Examining Politics” is distributed by Ricochet Audio Network, one of the biggest conservative podcast networks.

The show publishes new episodes every evening, rounding up the day’s news in American politics. Each episode is around 30 minutes long.

“Pundits, journalists, policymakers, people from the administration and elected officials” across the political spectrum are interviewed on the podcast, O’Connor said in an interview with C-SPAN.

The episodes also focus on the impact of the news of the day on the road to the 2020 election.

O’Connor told Publishers Daily the podcast combines the production resources at WMAL and KABC with The Washington Examiner's audience and marketing outreach.

“With the access and relationships I enjoy with my radio program at WMAL in Washington and KABC in Los Angeles, it was a no-brainer to combine that content and do a unique standalone daily podcast catering to the public's insatiable need for more news, more facts, more analysis and more information,” O'Connor said.

The podcast is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google Podcast and other podcast apps.

Publishers from The Washington Post to The Wall Street Journal have introduced daily podcasts in the last few years, following the popularity of The New York Times' "The Daily" podcast, which reaches over 2 million listeners per day.
