Primedia Relaunches Surfing Girl

  • September 10, 2002
The Action Sports Group of Primedia has re-launched Surfing Girl magazine as “SG: Surf Snow Skate Girl.” The new title reflects expanded editorial content that includes girls snowboarding and skating as well as the magazine's mainstay surfing. The inaugural issue, featuring top athletes in each of the three sports, hits newsstands later this week. The new title speaks to the surging growth and popularity of girls surfing and other board sports. "The fact that we're re-launching the magazine now is a testament to health of this marketplace and our audience's extraordinarily positive reaction to our product," adds SG’s publisher Peter "PT" Townend. "Movies like 'Blue Crush' just reinforce what we've known for some time now -- girls are passionately pursuing these sports in record numbers." Published six times per year, SG is available through newsstands and subscriptions as well as at Wal-Mart, Safeway, Sports Authority, CVS, Kroger stores and specialty retailers. Total audience is estimated at 450,000.
