Last Round Of ViacomCBS Senior Execs Includes Berkett As EVP Development, Strategy

CBS and Viacom have announced the remaining senior appointments for the team that will take charge when the companies’ merger is completed, presumably early next month.

“We now have in place the entire senior management team for ViacomCBS, ensuring we will hit the ground running when the transaction closes in just a few weeks,” said Bob Bakish, president and CEO of Viacom, who will serve in the same role for ViacomCBS.

Alex Berkett, currently senior VP, corporate development and strategy at Viacom, will serve in the same capacity and be promoted to executive VP at the ViacomCBS. He will lead ViacomCBS’ efforts to identify, pursue and execute strategic growth opportunities, including acquisitions, partnerships, investments and joint ventures, across all of ViacomCBS’ businesses and geographies.

Nancy Phillips, previously chief HR officer at Nielsen, has been tapped to be executive VP, chief people officer, responsible for overseeing all of ViacomCBS’s HR functions, strategy and global programs. She will also oversee global security.

Marva Smalls, EVP global head of inclusion strategy at Viacom, will serve in the same capacity — initiatives and fostering partnerships that promote and advance diversity and inclusion —overseeing and being promoted to EVP at the combined company. She will retain her public affairs responsibilities for Nickelodeon as EVP, public affairs Kids & Family Entertainment Brands, ViacomCBS Media Networks.

Jose Tolosa will continue as chief transformation officer and be promoted to EVP of the combined company. He will continue to oversee integration efforts for the combined company, “with a focus on accelerating the evolution of its businesses,” per the announcement.

Tolosa will also lead ViacomCBS strategic planning, helping to set the company’s strategic priorities and support cross-company projects for senior management; and oversee the Global Business Services and Global Sourcing divisions. Those divisions  will expand to their scope, to provide enterprise-wide services and helping drive synergies.
