CES 2020: Comcast Adds Advanced Security For Free

The Comcast xFi Advanced Security, a feature that automatically protects devices from online threats, is going to be included free for customers who lease an xFi gateway, Comcast announced at CES.

New customers will receive Advanced Security when they activate an xFi Gateway and the feature will be rolling out to 18 million eligible xFi customers in the coming weeks, according to Comcast.

The new security features include a daily list of digital security-related actions to take, preventing inadvertent visits to malicious sites, blocking remote access to smart devices from unknown sources, monitoring devices in real time with real-time alerts and the ability to adapt to the home network and get smarter to keep up with new threats over time.

“We want you to have the peace of mind to know that in just a few minutes all the devices you connect in the home, and the people that use them, are safe and secured,” stated Dana Strong, president of Xfinity Consumer Services, Comcast. “Our customers asked for a better way to stream content.”

The advanced security feature initially launched in early 2019 as a $6 upgrade and was developed after customer feedback requesting a way to protect Internet of Things devices within the smart home.
