MusicMatch, JazzFM Lead MeasureCast Rankings

MeasureCast, Inc. today reported that MusicMatch finished the week of August 26 as the top-ranked Internet-only radio station, and that London-based JazzFM held on to the title of the number one simulcast radio station measured by MeasureCast.

The MusicMatch "Artist Match" station streamed 271,640 hours of music to nearly 102,000 listeners, making it the top Internet-only station, and the third-most-listened-to station measured by MeasureCast. The MusicMatch network placed five stations in the MeasureCast Top 10 Internet-only stations ranking. The most-listened-to Web radio station measured by MeasureCast was JazzFM, which streamed nearly 360,000 hours of entertainment to an audience of 76,536.

Seventeen of The MeasureCast Weekly Top 25 Internet radio stations recorded an increase in the total time spent listening to their Webcasts, while 21 stations saw an increase in audience size, or "cume." This helped the MeasureCast Internet Radio Listening Index inch up one quarter of one percent. Since Jan. 6, 2002, the total time spent listening to Web radio stations measured by MeasureCast is up 155%. Since Jan. 1, 2001, the total time spent listening has increased 749%. The index is a representation of the trend in the total time spent listening to a spectrum of on-line radio stations monitored by MeasureCast.

Demographic Highlights for the Week of Aug. 26 - Sept. 1

  • The peak listening day was Wednesday, Aug. 28, with 19% of all listening occurring on this day.
  • Internet radio listening is primarily a work-hour phenomenon, with 80% of all online listening occurring between 5 a.m. Pacific and 5 p.m. Pacific.
  • 10% of the week's listening took place over the weekend.
  • 28% of Internet radio listeners were between the ages of 25 and 34. 57% were younger than 35, 29% were younger than 25, and 7% were older than 55.
  • 70% of listeners were men; 30% were women.
  • In the U.S., 32% of listeners resided in the South; 30% in the West, 20% in the Northeast, and 18% in the Midwest.
