Omnimedia Sees Bright Side

Although a congressional committee has referred Martha Stewart’s insider trading case to the Justice Department, her lawyers see a bright side to her current situation. “At Martha Stewart's direction, since early June, we have sought to cooperate fully with all of the House Committee's requests for information, have voluntarily provided more than 1,500 pages of documents in response to its requests and have spent innumerable hours responding to dozens of additional requests for information. All along, however, we have believed, as we conveyed to the Committee early on, that any open questions relating to Ms. Stewart's personal sale of ImClone shares should be addressed by the ongoing investigations in the Department of Justice and at the SEC, which have the jurisdiction and expertise to resolve such matters. Indeed, the Committee today described its review of this matter as a "sideshow" in relation to more important matters before it. We therefore welcome the Committee's decision,” said Robert Morvillo, one of Stewart's attorneys.
