Microsoft Teams App Outage On Tuesday

Microsoft Teams, a workplace collaboration app that competes with Slack, was down for several hours on Tuesday, according to reports.

Microsoft said it is investigating the incident, but admitted it had failed to renew its authentication certificate. The certificate was later updated.

ArsTechnica speculates that the renewal lapse may have been due not to human error, but to failure of an automated system.

The outage took place from 8:30 to 11:30 ET. Service apparently was restored in the afternoon.

The service -- which is also said to compete with Google Hangouts -- includes video meetings, chat and file storage, the reports state.
