'The New Yorker' Ups Racic To First Digital Director

The New Yorker is looking toward the future, appointing Monica Racic to the newly created role of digital director. Previously, Racic held the position of director of production and multimedia at the outlet.

Racic’s promotion was announced by New Yorker editor David Remnick in a memo to staff.

Remnick wrote: "As our digital footprint and ambitions have grown, so has the need for a position in senior editorial management that is devoted exclusively to the work of developing strategy, setting priorities, representing TNY Edit to our partners inside and outside Condé Nast, and serving as the TNY Edit lead as new products and initiatives are developed and existing ones rethought."

Racic, who joined the magazine's production team in 2008, has worked across digital, multimedia and production roles.

After learning magazine production under Pat Keogh, Racic contributed to the development of The New Yorker app, several CMS migrations and product launches.

Remick called Racic "a great champion of digital storytelling," noting along with the multimedia team, she has "produced over a hundred free-standing special projects/stories, as well as multimedia elements for magazine stories." He added she "designed and built systems that integrate new workflows and old, most recently the editorial infrastructure to produce interactive stories."

In her new role, Racic will work with newyorker.com editor Michael Luo. Her new role begins when a replacement has been found for her current position.
