Former FTC Executive Jessica Rich Joins Georgetown Law Technology Group

Jessica Rich, the former Director of the Federal Trade Commission Bureau of Consumer Protection, has been named a Distinguished Fellow at Georgetown Law’s Institute for Technology Law & Police.

Rich, who joined the FTC in 1991, is credited with spearheading the FTC’s Children’s Online Privacy Protection Rule and the Safeguards Rule, protecting sensitive financial information.

Rich also led creation of the FTC’s Office of Technology Research (Otech) and the development of FTC policy reports on the Internet of Things, Big Data, data brokers, mobile apps, and cross-device tracking.  

According to the Institute, Rich will write in her areas of expertise, participate in policy discussions and serve as a resource to the Georgetown Law community.

Rich joins such figures as former FTC Commissioner Terrell McSweeney, former FCC senior counselor Gigi Sohn, and technologist Ashkan Soltani.
