PopSugar Offers Fitness App Free Following Early Release

To serve staffers working from home during the COVID-19 pandemic, PopSugar released its new fitness app Active by PopSugar early. In addition to the pushed-up launch, the app is available to users for free.

The app was intended to launch with a paid monthly subscription that will go into effect sometime in the future.

“We have been planning our Active by PopSugar launch for a while,” PopSugar's general manager, Angelica Marden told Publishers Daily. “Last Friday as people started implementing Work from Home policies and navigating shelter in place mandates, we thought this was something people could really use now, so we worked through the weekend to get it out."

App users have access to more than 500 fitness classes across strength, cardio, yoga and Pilates, taught by celebrity trainers and experts. Classes can be filtered by duration, level of difficulty and intensity.

In addition to individual classes, users can tap challenges like “4-Week Full-Body Fusion” and “21 Days to Kick-Start Your Fitness.”

"We decided to move up the launch and offer it for free to bring some positivity and offer people a chance to get some stress out during a very tough time. We hope our workouts can provide a little break and small joy amid the uncertainty,” said Marden.

The Active by PopSugar app launch follows last month's announcement of the one-day wellness event “Grounded,” which kicked off International Women’s Day.

Earlier this year, the brand launched a four-week fitness program on its Glow platform called “Full-Body Fusion.” The program features 25 workout videos, each under 45 minutes, and was made available for a one-time cost of $19.99.
