Consumer Confidence Seen As Great Unknown Post COVID-19

While the COVID-19 pandemic is disrupting some supply chains, the great unknown for the future is consumer confidence, according to a new study by ABI Research.

In addition to development and the introduction of 5G phones, lagging consumer demand may slow the short-term adoption of 5G mobile devices.

Another issue is that the majority of leading device makers, including Apple, Huawei and Xiaomi, have the bulk of their production in China, ABI researchers stated in a webinar this week.

ABI expects the outbreak will gradually come under control by the end of the second quarter, leading to a reevaluation of over-reliance on China for the manufacture and component supply.

“Early indicators from Korea and China show that the supply chain is recovering very fast,” states the report.

In the long term, consumers are projected to embrace the digital lifestyle more than ever.
