4 Conservative Sites Double Traffic In March

Four conservative news sites recorded serious hikes in user traffic last month.

The four sites include the Washington Examiner, Washington Times, National Review and PJ Media, according to TheRighting’s analysis of March 2020 mobile and desktop traffic, based on Comscore data. They more than doubled their traffic in March, compared to the same month in 2019.

“I’ve been analyzing traffic to conservative websites for 20 months, and I’ve never seen such large, across-the-board percentage gains in unique visitors,” stated Howard Polskin, president and chief curator at TheRighting.

The National Review recorded the largest percentage gain, with a 203% surge in unique visitors to an audience of 13 million, from March 2020 to March 2019.

For the 15th month in a row, the Washington Examiner posted a percentage increase in year-over-year traffic. It grew its traffic by 129%, to 21.9 million.

The Washington Times’ unique visitors increased by 182%, to 18.9 million.

PJ Media’s audience grew by 122%, to 2 million.

FoxNews.com, which often tops the list of conservative sites in total unique visitors, posted its largest percentage increase (28%) since September 2018.

The site had more than 131.5 million unique visitors, a jump of almost 28 million year-over-year.

A few weeks ago, Fox News Digital editor in chief Porter Berry commented on the March 2020 numbers: “This past month, all Americans have felt the impact of the novel coronavirus across the country."

He added that "since the start of the global outbreak," Fox News Digital has provided "wall-to-wall coverage of the pandemic to serve our audience.”

FoxNews.com’s coronavirus landing page was the top category page on the site last month, in terms of page views, according to Adobe Analytics.

“Almost all websites that I studied in March on every side of the political spectrum saw healthy gains,” Polskin stated.

“News consumers, whether they were conservative, middle-of-the-road or liberal, were apparently seeking the same thing: The latest news of the unfolding crisis, analysis of the events, insightful commentary, and maybe even a ray of hope buried somewhere under the avalanche of stories about the pandemic," he added.

The only conservative site on TheRighting’s list of top 20 (based on unique visitors) that did not increase its audience year-over-year in March was TheBlaze, which dropped 19% to 6.7 million unique visitors.

TheRighting also found CNN.com, The New York Times and The Washington Post experienced significant year-over-year audience growth, based on Comscore data.

CNN.com attracted 54.7 million more unique visitors in March 2020 compared to March 2019, a 45% increase.

The New York Times and The Washington Post were both up more than 52 million unique visitors year-over-year, a 51% and 60% boost, respectively.
