Dow Narrows Street, Paper To Publish Slimmer Format

  • October 12, 2005
In a move that seems symbolic of the venerable financial daily's declining fortunes, Dow Jones & Co Tuesday unveiled plans to downsize The Wall Street Journal U.S. edition to a narrower format. The company said the new design, which trims the paper's width from about 15 inches to about 12 inches, is intended to retain existing readers while attracting new ones. The new format will be similar to the dimensions of other major U.S. dailies such as Gannett's USA Today. -- Joe Mandese
