'Fortune' Releases Annual Fortune 500 List

Fortune released the 66th edition of its Fortune 500list today, revealing a 1% bump in the revenue threshold to make the list at $5.7 billion. The list compiles the revenues of the largest corporations in the U.S. for the 2019 fiscal year.

Taking the top two spots are Walmart at No, 1 for the eighth straight year, generating $4 trillion in cumulative revenue, and Amazon.com at No. 2, its highest ranking yet.

Exxon Mobile, Apple, CVS and Berkshire Hathaway, came in at three, four, five and six, respectively.

Berkshire Hathaway holds the distinction of the list’s most profitable company, bringing in $84.1 billion in profits during the 2019 fiscal year.

Media companies topped all sectors in median revenue growth with a 12% bump.

Seventeen new companies made the list for the first time this year, including Uber at 228, Fox at 280 and Science Applications International at 466, while 52 companies, including Exxon Mobile, GM, Chevron and GE have been on the list every year since its debut.

The five most valuable companies to make the list were all from the tech sector and make up a combined $4.6 trillion in market value.

Across the list, the total amount of revenue represented equaled two-thirds of the U.S. GDP with $14.2 trillion in revenues, a 4% increase from previous years. Profits were up 8% at $1.2 trillion., while market value fell by 10% to $20.4 trillion.

The list represents companies based in 234 cities and 37 states, which the most companies located in New York State, California and Texas.
