S4Capital Launches Four-Year Black Fellowship Program

Martin Sorrell wants to do his part in helping increase the diversity within advertising through his company’s new S4Capital Fellowship Program.

This four-year, immersive, accelerator program will invite participants to spend time working with MediaMonks, MightyHive and Firewood operations in the U.S., as well as within brand clients and technology companies – and the opportunity to travel and work abroad.

The position includes benefits like salary and relocation fees among others. Participants start in the first quarter of next year.

The program is specifically designed to avoid “tokenism” by putting participants to work through a comprehensive blend of “meaningful” job responsibilities, mentorship, apprenticeships with one of eight senior leaders, formal learning and support for self-directed study.

There will also be opportunities to work overseas. “Let us be clear, being an S4 Fellow provides you with a secure platform with the scope to grow,” states the entry form.

Sorrell says the BLM movement ignited the decision to expand its efforts in diversifying its staff. He points out that although 40% of the 2,500+ S4 staffers are people of color, most are Asian and Hispanic. In the U.S., in particular, he states the workforce is 3%-4% Black.

This new program is good business, Sorrell says. “It reflects our community better and so, if we understand our community better, we will be more effective in terms of what we do.”
