Lauren Gustus Named 'Salt Lake Tribune' Editor

Lauren Gustus is the new editor of the McClatchy nonprofit TheSalt Lake Tribune.

Previously, Gustus served as the top editor at McClatchy’s flagship, The Sacramento Bee, and regional editor for the company’s 10 Western newsrooms.

Gustus succeeds executive editor Jennifer Napier-Pearce, who resigned in August after four years at the helm.

The Salt Lake Tribuneannounced last month that it will reduce its print publication from daily to weekly in 2021.

Last year, the Tribune became the first daily legacy newspaper in the U.S. to become a nonprofit organization.

Salt Lake Tribune owner Paul Huntsman gave up ownership, and the paper is now run by a board of directors, with Huntsman serving as chairman.

The Tribune has about 15,000 paid digital subscribers.

Separately, New York Public Radio has tapped Armando Gutierrez as its CEO.

NYPR is the home of WNYC, WQXR, Gothamist, WNYC Studios, The Jerome L. Greene Performance Space and New Jersey Public Radio.

Gutierrez’s appointment will take effect on December 2.

He was most recently CFO for all CBS owned-and-operated radio and television stations’ digital properties.
