Dentsu Reorganizes Far-Flung Sports Marketing Operations

Dentsu is reorganizing its numerous sports and entertainment marketing agencies outside of Japan under a new entity called Dentsu Sports International.

The holding company has sports and entertainment subsidiaries across the Americas, Europe, Asia and Australia, with some reporting directly to parent Dentsu Group and others to Dentsu International.

Now they will fall under the new DSI umbrella.

In the U.S., for example, MKTG Sports provides consulting, hospitality, digital, content and other services. It also has operations in Canada, the UK and Australia.

The move is designed to better coordinate the group’s sports/entertainment strategy and operations, which Dentsu sees as a key growth area and differentiator vis-a-vis its holding company competitors.

Dentsu executive Yohei Shimizu will serve as CEO of the new unit.

The shift comes amid a broader ongoing corporate reorganization at Dentsu, the full details of which are expected to be revealed next month.
