Crypto Site 'Decrypt' Hires Journalists From 'Yahoo Finance,' 'Fortune'

The crypto news site Decrypt is on a hiring spree, luring editorial talent away from Yahoo Finance and Fortune.

In one key hire, Decrypt has appointed Daniel Roberts, formerly editor at large at Yahoo Finance, as editor-in-chief. He starts in March. Decrypt also named Jeff John Roberts, a crypto journalist at Fortune, as executive editor.

Roberts replaces Matt Hussey, a co-founder of Decrypt, who is stepping away from his editorial role to serve as head of sales.

The hires from prominent organizations show Decrypt is at the “center of a new wave of media outlets that are coming to challenge the legacy financial press, just as the likes of BuzzFeed and Insider did a decade ago,” states Decrypt CEO Josh Quittner.

In another hire, Decrypt has named Alanna Roazzi-Laforet as publisher-Chief Revenue Officer. Previously, Roazzi-Laforet worked at ConsenSys on decentralized media and identity initiatives and has also served at the Interactive Advertising Bureau, Accuen/Omnicom Media Group and Condé Nast.

Hussey states that Decrypt, which claims 4 million unique visitors per month, “is a new breed of publication, one which not only covers the Web3 world, but aims to become a key part of it.”

Daniel Roberts started covering cryptocurrency at Fortune in 2011. He joined Yahoo Finance in 2016 to lead the finance site’s crypto coverage, in addition to writing about tech, sport, and media.

His work has also appeared in Time, Vice, Salon, The Guardian, The Paris Review, NPR, Air Mail, Entrepreneur and The Daily Beast Plus, he is co-author of the 2013 book "Zoom: Surprising Ways to Supercharge Your Career."

Jeff John Roberts (no relation to Daniel Roberts) started covering law, technology and cryptocurrency at Fortune in 2015.

His work has also appeared in BusinessWeekReuters, and The New York Times. He is the author of the new book “Kings of Crypto: One Startup's Quest to Take Cryptocurrency Out of Silicon Valley and Onto Wall Street.”
