Email sending platform SparkPost has named Michelle Byrd as chief people officer. 

Byrd will head global people operations and work on expanding the employee base as the firm scales up following significant investment. 

Previously, Byrd served as chief people officer at Zaloni, a data management company, and as vice president of global human resources and talent at Silverpop, a provider of email marketing and lead management tools.  

In January, SparkPost announced it had raised $180 million in new investment from LLR Partners, NewSpring Capital and PNC Bank.

SparkPost, which claims to send over 5 trillion emails a year for clients, said it plans to invest in growth and product development as COVID-19 accelerates the use of email. 

"As the industry further embraces digital marketing, we're seeing a shift of budgets into email and an explosion of interest in email marketing tools and analytics to optimize return on investment for the email channel," said Rich Harris, CEO at SparkPost, on Thursday.
