Egress Acquires Aquilai, Launches New Security Platform

Security firm Egress has acquired Aquilai Cyber Intelligence, an anti-phishing provider, the firm announced on Wednesday. Terms were not disclosed.

The purchase will allow Egress to “expand its protection over our customers’ human layer to ensure they can defend against targeted inbound attacks and outbound data loss as employees share content,” states Tony Pepper, CEO of Egress.

In tandem with the purchase, Egress is launching Egress Defend, a tool that incorporates Aquilai’s anti-phishing technology. The Aquilai Ajax brand has been retired.

In addition, Jack Chapman, CTO and co-founder of Aquilai, will join Egress as vice president of threat intelligence.

Egress Defend uses machine learning and natural language to detect phishing attacks. In addition, it provides content and context analysis for inbound email traffic, while streamlining user engagement for employee awareness of cybersecurity.

Meanwhile, Chapman says Aquilai is an ideal fit to help Egress achieve its "mission to secure the human layer, adding sophisticated anti-phishing capability to existing products that secure outbound content as it is shared by employees.”
