Sling TV Adds 117,000 Subscribers, But Dish TV Down 130,000

Dish Network added 117,000 Sling TV subscribers, but lost 130,000 Dish TV subscribers in the third quarter.

The company ended the quarter with 2.56 million Sling subscribers and 8.42 million satellite Dish subscribers, for a total of 10.98 million, representing a loss of 13,000.

In Q3 2020, Dish Network added 116,000 total subscribers, for a total of 11.42 million, including 8.96 million Dish subscribers and 2.46 million subscribers to the Sling TV vMVPD (virtual multichannel video programming distributor) service.

“We continue to experience increased competition, including competition from other subscription video on-demand and live-linear OTT service providers,” Dish said in a statement.

The company, which is moving into wireless spectrum, broadband and telecommunications, also lost 121,000 retail wireless subscribers in Q3, for a total of 8.77 million.

That was an improvement on Q3 2020, when it lost 212,000 wireless subscribers.

The company’s Q3 revenue totaled $4.45 billion, down from $4.53 billion in Q3 2020.

However, net income for the first nine months totaled $1.86 billion, versus $1.03 billion in the same period last year.
