Disruption: Change Foods CMO's Ingredient For Career, Life & Sustainable Cheese

Behind the Scenes with Irina Gerry

Change Foods' Irina Gerry shares her commitment to sustainability, discovered opportunities and why failure isn't always a bad thing.

I've had the opportunity to connect with and learn from executives of major brands at MediaPost's Insider Summits. In the process I've discovered some truly impressive women, and not only for the work they do but their stories behind the scenes. With Brand Insider: BTS, I get to pull back the curtain on some of the most influential women marketers as they talk about their path to success: the twists and turns, obstacles, inspirations and the valuable lessons learned along the way.

“I realized that I will not spend a minute of my day and minute of my career kind of wasting my time and energy on something that didn't matter.”  What does matter to Irina Gerry is climate, food and sustainability, and it’s that passion that brought her to the animal-free dairy start-up, Change Foods. In this episode of Brand Insider: BTS, the CMO talks with me about taking leaps instead of steps, forgoing a predictable path and her “checkered past.” You can watch the video of the entire conversation here.

Ms. Gerry's philosophy of taking leaps in her career reminded me of Tip#23 ("Be prepared to take reasonable risks in your work; for example, accepting an assignment that stretches your experience and abilities. Even with failure, you can learn and improve your skills.") in Chapter #5 ("Be proactive about career advancement") in the book Fast Start to Career Success.
