Firm Promotes Text Alerts To Save Abandoned Shopping Carts

ProTexting is offering an SMS reminder service to save abandoned shopping carts on Shopify.

Consumers who leave un-purchased items in their carts will receive a text alert.

The firm claims that email is not as effective as text.

"While email alerts can work, open rates are much higher for text messages, around 98%,” says Petar Kassov, CTO of ProTexting.
"Getting a quick reminder will often motivate the customer to return to the site and complete their transaction."

The new service supports SMS messages of up to 480 characters in the required minimum time frame of 15 minutes.. These alerts are automatically sent when a purchase is not completed.

Compliance requires that only one alert per shopping cart is sent, but an alert can be delivered if the person has cleared the cart and started over, the firm says.

Users receive such metrics as total SMS messages sent, completed orders, success rate, and total revenue.

Kassov says abandonment rates have hit over 80% with mobile devices. “When your customers are shopping by phone, sending them text message reminders is a great way to lower abandonment," Kassov states.

I'll bet there are much higher - unsubscribe me's - too.  Annoying customers is not a successful marketing strategy.
