Netflix Confirms Second Season Of 'Squid Game'

In an unsurprising but welcomed-by-fans announcement, Netflix has confirmed that the massively popular South Korean sci-fi survival series “Squid Game” will have a second season.

No release date was specified, but some have speculated that fans might have to wait until 2024.

Netflix offered a teaser in a tweet on Sunday that featured the Korean-language series’ creepy animatronic doll Young-hee and a statement from the show’s creator, Hwang Dong-hyuk.

“It took 12 years to bring the first season of ‘Squid Game’ to life last year,” he wrote. “But it took 12 days for ‘Squid Game’ to become the most popular Netflix series ever. As the writer, director, and producer of ‘Squid Game,’ a huge shout out to fans around the world. Thank you for watching and loving our show. And now, Gi-hun returns. The Front Man returns. Season 2 is coming […] Join us once more for a whole new round.”

Season 1 of the series holds the record for Netflix's most-watched show in its first 28 days, drawing 1.8 billion views following its Sept. 17, 2021 release.
