Australia-based messaging firm MessageMedia has acquired Smooth Messenger, a text-messaging application that integrates with CRM platform Zoho, allowing firms to send two-way text messages. Terms were not disclosed. 

MessageMedia hopes to strengthen its customer engagement and its ecosystem integration, says CEO Paul Perrett. 

Launched in 2018, Smooth Messenger will be rebranded as SMS for Zoho CRM by MessageMedia, and the Smooth Messenger team will join the firm. 

Users can send communications to customers and prospect following actions such as visiting a web page or opening an email, the company says. 

This is popular with firms in the construction, financial services and professional services verticals that seek to acquire new leads, set up appointments and provide updates to customers.
