Elizabeth Walters Named Interim Editor of 'USA Today' Network In South Carolina

Gannett has named Elizabeth Walters as interim editor of USA Today Network newsrooms in South Carolina, replacing Steven Bruss who leaves on September 23 to become senior planning editor at the Dallas Morning News.

Walters will oversee Greenville, Spartanburg, Anderson and Bluffton, South Carolina operations, the Greenville News reports.

In addition, Gabe Whisnant, news director for Spartanburg, will serve as news director for all three Upstate SC newsrooms, with a focus on Spartanburg.

Previously, Walters was news director for the Greenville News and Anderson Independent Mail. Prior to that, she served as audience development editor for the Upstate Gannett newsrooms.

In addition, Walters has been executive editor of the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal in Tupelo, Mississippi, and has worked at the Atlanta Journal-Constitution and the Montgomery Advertiser.

“Elizabeth is a veteran journalist with a love for the community and a knowledge of the Upstate that will help these newsrooms excel,” Bruss states.
