'Mad' Celebrates Its 70th Anniversary With New Issue

Mad magazine will celebrate its 70th anniversary with a special edition due out on October 4th, DC has announced.  

The cover features a glass with a denture in it, and the headline “70 Years Dumb! Inside there are contribitions from “the Usual Gang of Idiots,” along with “Weird Al” Yankovic and comedian Jordan Peele, according to AIPT.  

Mad no longer is sold on newsstands, but in comic shops. The issues contain a large portion of recycled content. But fans are happy it survives at all. 

The anniversary cover includes the line, "70% NEW material (We'll, almost...Probably...Maybe in dog years?)

Mad was founded in 1952 as a comic book by Harvey Kurtzman and William F. Gaines, and converted into a magazine in 1955.  

The anniversary issue features a new wraparound cover by 

Mark Fredrickson, and The Bathroom, a Mad movie parody of The Batman by Desmond Devlin and Tom Richmond, among other things.
