Hearst Unveils Series On Abuelas-Hispanic/Latinx Grandmothers

 

 

Hearst Magazines and Oprah Daily are launching a new series focusing on grandmothers tied to Hispanic Heritage Month. It launches today, September 28.

 

The series, presented in partnership with Lexus, is titled “Project Tell Me: From Our Abuelas.” Designed to preserve generations of wisdom within the Hispanic and Latinx communities, it features over 30 new stories across 12 Hearst Magazines brands, including ELLE, ELLE DECOR, Esquire, Good Housekeeping, Harper's Bazaar, House Beautiful, Men's Health, Oprah Daily, Road & Track, Runner's World, Veranda and Women's Health.

I’ve always admired how in Hispanic and Latinx culture, abuelas, or grandmothers, and abuela-type figures are intentional about their role as the keepers of tradition and the helping hands to a brighter future,” Winfrey says in a video introduction.  

The new stories include: 

  • Oprah Daily editor-at-large Gayle King interviewed  Charise Castro Smith, the director of Encanto’s writer and director the first Latina, and the second woman, to direct a Disney feature.
  • For Esquire, actor Benjamin Bratt talks about what the matriarchs of his family taught him about faith and being a parent. 
  • Harper’s Bazaar shares a conversation with Carolina Adriana Herrera, daughter of Venezuelan-born designer Carolina Herrera, about their family life and what Herrera is like as a grandmother. 
  • Oprah Daily interviews Lin-Manuel’s mother. Dr. Luz Towns-Miranda, on her years of mental health service to her community.  

Winfrey invites readers to “jump into this celebration of abuelas–dynamic women whose love, wisdom, acceptance, and strength are powering their families, their communities, and all of us.”
