Barbie's Newest NFT Collection Celebrates International Day Of The Girl

For International Day of the Girl, famed toy-brand Barbie has announced a new partnership with non-fungible token (NFT) brand Boss Beauties.

The partnership will feature a new NFT series consisting of 15,000 tokens that represent the 250 different professions -- from astronaut to CEO to beekeeper -- that Barbie has occupied since she surfaced in 1959.

The NFT collection will involve real-world philanthropic movements including a combined donation of $250,000 split between the Barbie Dream Gap Project, which grants resources for girls in need, and the Boss Beauties Foundation, a fund that provides young women with mentorship and a scholarship program.

Lisa McKnight, executive vice-president and global head of Barbie & Dolls, said in a statement that brand-owner Mattel is proud to bring Barbie’s various careers -- “from CEO to chef to scientist" -- to life with digital art.

Collaborating with Boss Beauties, McKnight added, celebrates both companies’ shared passion in championing the next generation of female leaders.

The NFT collection will likely launch at the end of 2022. A series of virtual mentorship programs that invite girls to hear from leaders from a variety of careers are planned to precede the launch.

Boss Beauties and Barbie previously launched the Role Models NFT collection in March for International Women’s Day, which followed Barbie’s NFT campaign with French luxury fashion brand Balmain this past January.
