Amazon Prime members will now be able to order prescription drugs to arrive at their doorstep through Amazon’s site for a monthly fee of $5. The new subscription program, RxPass, provides generic medications to treat over 80 common health conditions including high blood pressure, hair loss, anxiety and acid reflux.

According to Amazon, the RxPass fee does not increase even if users need multiple prescriptions filled each month. The $5 charge covers delivery costs and can be added directly to Prime customers' existing subscription fee.

The company, which found that 150 million Americans already take one or more of the medications available through RxPass, says medications can be delivered on a monthly or quarterly basis.

Other conditions covered by the service include allergies, diabetes (without insulin), anemia, and more.

Amazon says customers will be walked through a “simple sign-up process” that verifies eligibility and prescription information. Pharmacists will be available 24 hours a day “to coordinate with a customer's doctor or help with refills.”

In addition, Prime members will see savings at more than 60,000 pharmacies in the US, including CVS and Walgreens, as well as Amazon Pharmacy, which will supply the RxPass.

RxPass is available to Prime members starting on Tuesday January 24 “in most US states,” according to the company. Amazon hasn’t yet announced whether it will expand the list of medications or services outside of the US.

Customers enrolled in Medicare, Medicaid, or any other government healthcare program are not eligible for RxPass but can still use government insurance to fill prescriptions at Amazon Pharmacy.
