Burger King Taps Into Its Spidey Sense

Burger King is launching the Spider-Verse Whopper to tie in with the upcoming sequel, “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,” which is due out June 2.

The Spider-Verse Whopper includes a red bun with black sesame seeds with melted Swiss cheese, along with such traditional Whopper toppings as lettuce, tomatoes, mayonnaise, pickles, ketchup and white onions.

BK will also add a Spider-Verse Sundae to menus. That dessert features soft serve ice cream topped with black and red chocolate popping candies.

The two items will be available at participating Burger King restaurants nationally from May 15 through June 21.

The chain will host Spider-Verse takeovers, with interactive designs that put guests into the Spider-Verse, at select locations worldwide.

“Like the infinite number of universes that can be explored in the next installment of the award-winning Spider-Man franchise, Burger King fans can discover new and exciting ways to customize the ‘Spider-Verse’ menu items,” said Pat O’Toole, chief marketing officer, Burger King North America, in a release. Personal customizations  include the addition of bacon to the Whopper.

The promotion comes as Burger King is planning to close 400 of its locations by the end of 2023.
