Google Adds A Spam Folder To Drive

Email senders may have another spam trap to worry about: Google is adding a dedicated folder to Google Drive host unwanted files containing spam or abusive content, it has announced.

“When an unsolicited file is moved to the spam folder, you will be unsubscribed, preventing all comment, sharing, and mobile push notifications for the file,” Google advises users. “Once unsubscribed, you will not be able to find the file anywhere in Drive outside of your spam folder.”

Google notes that it has offered “best-in-class Gmail and Drive spam, phishing, and malware prevention for years, but Drive has lacked a spam folder, similar to the Gmail spam folder, to place unwanted content."

The new spam folder can be seen on the Drive home page on Web, Android, iOS and Drive for Desktop.

It is available to all Google Workspace, G Suite Basic and Business customers.

The announcement was made at the Google I/O developer 2023 conference.

Extended rollout (potentially longer than 15 days for feature visibility) starts on May 24.
