billion in 2022, down from $17.8 billion during the pre-pandemic year of 2019, according to data from regional consultancy Artisan Gateway," per TheHollywood Reporter. "Over the
first five months of 2023, several blockbusters — such as Disney’s '
Guardians of the Galaxy 3' and Japanese anime '
Suzume' — have helped buoy sales in the
region, but exhibitors in almost every country of Asia still have a long way to go to reach pre-COVID 19 highs."
