Carvel Adds Crunchie Munchie Monster To Cake Lineup In Time For Halloween

Move over, Fudgie the Whale -- you’re got some competition. This week Carvel announced the introduction of a new cake to its classic soft serve dessert offerings.

The Crunchie Munchie Monster is layered with vanilla and chocolate soft serve and milk chocolate fudge, topped with cone horns and the chain’s signature Chocolate Carvel Crunchies.

The sweetly spooky new cake was the winner of the ice cream parlor’s “The Next Original Character Contest,” where fans had the chance to select which character would join Carvel’s classics like Fudgie the Whale and Cookie Puss. The Crunchie Munchie Monster beat out contenders such as Coney Carl and Sunny Sprinkles.

The cake is available in all of Carvel’s approximately 350 shops nationwide.

Additionally, Carvel has just dropped a new merchandise collection in time for back to school. The collection, available here, is in a collegiate style, with a new Fudgie the Whale logo on T-shirts, sweatshirts and sweatpants with the “Carvel College” theme.

Fudgie the Whale was “born” on June 1, 1977, when Carvel wanted to create a “Whale of a Dad” cake offering for Father’s Day. Fudgie has become a pop culture touchstone, serving as a mascot at Mets and Yankees’ games, with the cake itself making appearances on such TV shows such as “The Office,” “The Simpsons” and “Archer.”
