Technology writer Taylor Lorenz is starting a newsletter, User Mag, on Substack following her departure from The Washington Post.
“I will pursue the type of reporting on the internet that has become increasingly difficult to do in corporate media,” Lorenz wrote on Substack, according to Associated Press.
Lorenz announced on Tuesday that she is leaving the Post. Reports said she was the subject of an internal review at the paper for a social media post that referred to President Biden as a war criminal.
She reportedly had posted a picture of herself on Instagram, with Biden in the background and the text “War criminal.”
There was no public sign that Taylor was in bad favor at the Post, but she has not appeared in the paper since then.
“We are grateful for the work Taylor has produced at The Washington Post,” a spokesperson said, according to AP. “She has resigned to pursue a career in independent journalism, and we wish her the best.”
Earlier in her career, Lorenz worked at The New York Times as a technology reporter.
