Among other changes made by Pichai, Sissie Hsaio -- who leads the division in charge of Google’s Gemini app -- will join Google DeepMind under CEO Demis Hassabis. Google Assistant will also become part of Google’s platforms and devices team.
Alphabet and Google CEO Sundar Pichai made major changes to the company's leadership team on Thursday.
Prabhakar Raghavan, the company’s search and ads boss since 2018, will become the chief technologist after deciding to "return to his computer science roots."
In this role, he will work closely with Pichai and Google leads to provide technical direction and leadership to grow Google's culture of tech excellence, Pichai wrote in a blog post.
"AI moves faster than any technology before it," Pichai wrote. "To keep increasing the pace of progress, we've been making shifts to simplify our structures along the way, including the creation of Google DeepMind and the joining of the Platforms & Devices teams. As a next step, Prabhakar and I have been thinking through how to structure our Knowledge & Information team for the Gemini era."

Among other changes made by Pichai, Sissie Hsaio -- who leads the division in charge of Google’s Gemini app -- will join Google DeepMind under CEO Demis Hassabis. Google Assistant will also become part of Google’s platforms and devices team.
“Bringing the teams closer together will improve feedback loops, enable fast deployment of our new models in the Gemini app,” Pichai wrote.
