Membership entails implementing eight trust indicators, which Newsweek says it has done across its digital platform. These cover best practices, journalistic expertise, labels, references, methods, locally sourcing, diverse voices and actionable feedback.
Newsweek hopes to deliver “unbiased journalism in an era where trust in media is more critical than ever,” says Jennifer H. Cunningham, Newsweek's editor in chief.
The Trust Project’s Trust Mark logo will now appear on Newsweek's website.
The group's mission is to “amplify journalism’s commitment to transparency, accuracy, inclusion and fairness so that the public can make informed news choices,” its website says.
“Newsweek has made substantial, meaningful changes to deepen its commitment to integrity,” said Sally Lehrman, founder and chief executive of The Trust Project.
