Webcast To Save Internet Radio Starts Today

  • October 1, 2002
The International Webcasting Association will launch a Webcast today in an effort to convince Congress to pass H.R. Bill 5469, which delays Webcast royalty payments for six months (MDN Sept. 30). The bill is expected to be brought for a vote in the House by the Judiciary Committee today and may be passed. The Webcast seeks to influence the vote. It features a telephone interview with Rep. Jay Inslee (D-WA), who sponsored the Internet Radio Fairness Act and is a leading supporter of Webcasters. The Webcast can be seen at SaveInternetRadio.net and can be linked from the IWA site. The broadcast takes place in Las Vegas and will be anchored by Ann Gabriel of Gabriel Media. "We hope this Webcast will help focus attention on our situation and encourage people to contact their Congressional delegation," says Kevin Shively, a marketing director at Beethoven.com and chair of the IWA Legislative Committee.
